Pulled from lindows forum.

3.1 is here! We're happy to be able to share this just in time for us to now all dash off to the summit. But, before you run out and grab it, PLEASE read the following...

1. 3.1 is UNSTABLE. This means that 3.1 has not gone through our full rigorous QA cycles. Think of 3.1 as the very first "Alpha" version of 4.0, which will be released to everyone later this year.

2. 3.1 is only available to Insiders and should be considered a "Thrillseeker" type product...meaning...back up before installing, don't use it for any mission critical work, etc. In other words, be prepared for it to completely blow up!

3. 3.1 is only available digitally via .iso download. The purpose of this build is for testing and since this is an unstable build, there will not be a buy-on-CD or CNR version of 3.1 available.

4. Read the release notes here: http://lindows.com/osupdateinfo.

5. Insiders can find the .iso to download in their My.Lindows.com account here.

6. Here are some of the main new features introduced with 3.1:

* Ability to test display settings (15 second delay assures users there system will restore it's previous state if an unsupported resolution setting is applied)
* Netscape 7.0.1 (includes new Lindows Orbit Small theme, Google Toolbar and many minor bug fixes)
* Click-N-Run Client 3.0.42
* Integrated support for LindowsOS VirusSafe
* Integrated support for LindowsOS SurfSafe
* New 2.4.20 Kernel
* New Network Control Panel (available in the Launch Menu under Settings)
* Improved Control Panel Graphical UI (same location as Network Control Panel)
* New Flash Welcome Screen (an awesome interactive tutorial designed to ease new users into LindowsOS)
* Removable Devices onto Desktop (Hot Plugging)
* nVidia and ATI Commercial 3D Graphics Drivers added
* New and updated icons
* Consistent GUI (Gnome & KDE APPS with Geramik theme)
* Excellent integration with USB removable devices Better integration with Microsoft Network
* Better hardware support for misc. devices (cameras, scanners, removable hard drives, etc.)
* Improved Printer Manager (defaults, advanced buttons, UI changes, bug fixes)
* Improved File Manager UI
* Improved File System Directory Structure (data files)
* Replaced KreateCD with K3B
* Multi User bug fixes (KPPP dialer & file management)

Please report your comments here. Bugs, suggestions, what you like, don't like, etc.

Enjoy!

Now this looks exciting :-D

LindowsOS 4.0 looks quite exciting IMO.

damn...first they breeze through 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 and now they are talking about 4.0 what exactly warrents such fast succession through the numbering sceam?

it again goes to prove that Lindows is a gimmick, a con, a marketing ploy

i wish Lindows all the best but come on...they need to stop acting like MS...stop playing themselves as a cheap knock-off and provide a quality distro, change their damn name and stop making outragours claims/press releases

3.1 is what was released 4.0 is due out later this year. Whats mandrake at 9.1? Do you think they started ay 1.0. As i recall the breezed all the way up to 5 if not 6. Please critize something lagit but just being a antilindows troll is not very original.

I realize that ...but it takes even Mandrake a year and a half to get from one .0 release to the next...note I said "talking" about 4.0 I didn't say it was being released just yet. 3.1 is even "actually" releases yet (or is it one of those internal releases that they are famous for....1.0 -> 2.0)

X.0 -> six months later X.1 -> six months later X.2 -> six months later X+1.0

again, and again, and again....at least they have some structure to it.

Lindows has been around for what? a little over a year and already they have jumped 3 full versioning numbers...please.

and i am not just a Lindows troll...i have talked about this before for different software releases and distro releases...this one just happens to be now.

Most peoples .x releases are not betas for the next release they are actual releases, and they have beta's and RC's for those releases.
