View Full Version : Lindows adds Web Filtering Protection

02-19-2003, 06:47 AM
As you know, we launched VirusSafe yesterday. We have now just launched SurfSafe. SurfSafe is an integrated web filtering service, built right into the OS, that filters out pornography and other sites that might not be appropriate for children. The press release on this isn't until Thursday morning, so you're getting a couple days early sneak preview.

SurfSafe has a lot of cool things about it, and you can learn more here and here.

SurfSafe requires the latest CNR Client, 3.0.38 or higher, which was pushed live yesterday so your computer should automatically update to this version of the client the next time you start your computer, if it hasn't already. If you're on 3.0.38 and don't see the SurfSafe node and icon in your system tray, use the Check for Updates option in the Go menu of the CNR Client.

This service is $49 per year, but like with VirusSafe, Insiders get it for free!

Note: It can take up to 15 minutes for VirusSafe to begin filtering after the first time you turn it on.

Tell us what you think!

Kevin

$49/year for net nanny; geez, where do I sign up. Exactly when was this place taken over by lindows shills. I hope they're paying you for this shameless hucksterism.

This system is embedded in the os its not a joke like Netnanny. I found other similar systems but they cost even more. Insider get it and the virus protection for free :) thats 99 bucks sure has been worth it. I'm glad i didn't listen to all the trolls over on another forum.

LPH tries to let everyone have their say - right LPH???/ ! Where have you been ?? And if you have your own favorite disto then TR has a forum for it .. or ask LPH to add it. He added JAMD -- and I'm hoping he'll add LinuxInstall.org. Maybe I should send a pm to him.

I'd have to agree with both posters. First, we have to be careful that this site remains balanced. Second, we need to make sure that anyone who wants a forum for their favorite distro has it available. Everyone is more than welcome to post about their favorite distro - nothing is stopping you - except being polite about spamming everyone

Are you saying i'm a huckster? You invited me to post Lindows stories and i have done that. Are you saying that i'm not welcome to post anymore? If thats what your saying then say no more.

I think LPH is saying that he wants the broadest range of opinions possible - including yours!

What part do you agree with? The part taken over by Lindows shrills or the Huckster part?

Nope.. I am inviting everyone from all distributions. Sadly, this message isn't getting out to too many people. So, they come here and see you doing a great job with Lindows and then complain. Instead, I'm saying to them -- post away -- no one is stopping anyone.

It looked like you where agreeing with a distro troll. I love Lindows and it is indeed a very very misunderstood animal. They are going after the regular guy and the elitist folks resent that. Then their are the rumors that fly around the web and Lindows refuses to play. I know the normal linux crowd wants to exclude Lindows and thats partly what motivates me. Lindows is pulling Linux mainstream and a whole lot of people want to keep their geeky subculture. Thats the heart of it. I want Linux to succeed. For a few years i rooted for mandrake then i saw they wouldn't take it to the next level and then i followed Lycoris but releases were to slow and i saw that they weren't going to take linux their eather. then Lindows came alone with its aggressive marketing and its customer orientation and i became a big supporter. The more the old crowd trashes Lindows the more I'm convinced these guys are making headway. If you think i post to much lindows news then say so.
