Part of the next LindowsOS updating, coming later this month, is bringing the Netscape Internet suite current to Netscape version 7.0.1. The work on this is now complete, and if you'd like to update to 7.0.1 now and not wait for the update, you can find the update to Netscape 7.0.1 under the Update Node (Recommended Updates) in the Click-N-Run Client.
Here are some of the changes:
- Three different sizes of the LindowsOS Netscape theme are now included (small, medium, large). Try all three and see which you like best. We default to the Medium size. (To switch sizes, close all your Netscape applications down, open one browser, and select View > Apply Theme. Select the theme of your choice, then close Netscape down and restart it.)
- New pop-up ad blocking configuration screen. You'll find this in Netscape under Preferences > Privacy & Security > Popup Window Controls. For example, you can now enter any web sites that you wish to have as exceptions for popup window suppression. For example, some web sites (on-line banking, etc.) use popup windows to function properly. Now you can exclude any such site. You can also reverse this, by allowing all popup windows EXCEPT on certain sites.
- Home Page Group feature lets you automatically open several of your favorite pages as tabs when starting Netscape. After opening two or more pages, open the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click "Use Current Group" in the Navigator preference panel.
- New AOL Mail features let you unsend mail, check message status, and keep messages marked as new.
- New version of Flash (6.0).
- Supress messages to update. This will prevent you getting popup messages about a new version of Netscape, since LindowsOS users will usually want to update via Click-N-Run, not with the normal Netscape method.
- New title bar icon is used, making it easier to distinquish from other KDE applications that we had used the other "L" icon for.
- COPPA Compliance and improved security including greater control of certificates.
Post any comments, problems installing or using this new Netscape, etc. here.
Enjoy!
