The Lindows.com Education Program is being marketed as an "inexpensive choice to purchase LindowsOS for desktop computer systems".
For a flat annual fee of US$500, the academic institution can install LindowsOS on every machine they own. While this fee doesn't include access to Click-n-Run, it does allow administrators to install some products, including OpenOffice and RealPlayer, from a special "Education Aisle". Also included is an "easy to use administration console" for centralized administration (however no further details about this feature are provided).
For an educational institution with a reasonable number of PCs and with no real need for Microsoft Office or other Windows programs, this is probably worth considering because it's just so cheap. Administrators should bear in mind, however, that Lindows has no support out of the box for locking desktops, centralized user management or other enterprise features commonly used with Windows desktops - meaning primarily that the cost of uptake could be considerably higher than it might first seem.
