View Full Version : zlib issues.
Has anyone had any issues while installing RedHat, with zlib? When the installing reaches to that file and attempts to install it, it hangs and then says that it either can't find the file, the file is missing, or the package is bad, or the media is bad.
Has anyone had this problem? and if so, did you fix it? and if so, HOW?!?!? hehe =D)
How about if you try the installation with this option.
linux ide=nodma nousb
Also, you wouldn't happen to be harbering some other type of OS on that there hard drive of yours - now would ya?
Make sure you have space on the hard drive. Red Hat does not have a utility if you are trying to repartition windows.
Also, we'll need more information:
When the install hangs use Ctrl-Alt-F1 and tell us what it is saying.
Good luck
JCU sent a private message saying that redhat is now installed. He didn't provide any details. Hopefully he'll reply to this message so that others can learn from his experience.
Right JCU?
:D
Of course i'll enlighten everyone on my exper--er.. adventure..was just too tired at about 4am when it was installed to think clearly, that's all ;-)
Well, i didn't use the CD installation, i used the FTP installation, which can be tricky to find within RedHat. All you need to do is find the bootnet.img file on the RedHat CD, under Images. To make the boot disk, you need to use rawrite, which is under the Dosutils directory.
So from a DOS prompt, which is where i did this operation, cuz that's all i had to work with =D)
I changed to the directory on the CD that had rawrite, the Dosutils directory.
F:\images> rawrite \images\bootnet.img
And it did the rest.
Now onto step 2......
After booting with the floppy, i went through the normal installation procedure, except that it asks you if you want to install from NFS, HTTP, or FTP. I chose FTP. The installation looks about the same for a few screens, then it asks for FTP information. You need to use the IP address of the site you want to use. If you look on the RedHat mirror site listing, you can get the server hostname, and the directory for which the installation files are hiding =D)
To find the IP address, i just used the DOS ping utility, typed ping <hostname>. And that gave me the appropriate IP address for that FTP server. With that in hand, i plugged it into the field in RedHat set up, typed in the directory where the install files were found, and away it went. Only took about an hour.
In the meantine, i made some brownies, which cam out okay..kept me busy for the hour or so it took to download, much shorter time than downloading ALL three ISOs...
But once it finished downloading i was thrilled, and the setup went through everything else i was uesd to, and i had it up and running in just a short while.
