The ACLU is defending two students who wore t-shirts to their high school in support of a security guard who assaulted the school's principal (http://www.dailynews.com/antelopevalley/ci_5500383). The ACLU is taking the position that the teenagers' expulsions run contrary to the constitutional rights of freedom of speech. Of course, administrators attempted to take the position that the students were disruptive and polarized the debate further by suggesting the wearing of the t-shirts was equivalent to wearing a shirt supporting Hitler:
"Would you allow students to wear T-shirts for Hitler's birthday on April20?" trustee Al Beattie said. "This shirt falls into that same category."
What about this reply - if someone wanted to make a statement that Bush and Hitler deserve to be treated equally in history then the shirt would be appropriate.
