View Full Version : GNU/Linux Features
Tab completion is my favorite feature, especially when I'm changing directories. What is your favorite feature?.

I tend to think of "most useful" feature in terms of a comparison.
Windows NT has tab completion, and all major OSs have ssh and VNC capable solutions.
However, I think Linux's best feature is its pure "openness", the ability to share built in. This means that coders world-wide can improve their chosen projects without having to wait on anyone else.

How about cut and pasting with mouse selection? How about virtual desktops that work instead of being crappy 3rd party shareware that nags and crashes. How about your choice of journaled filesystems? Apt-get? I could go on all day...

Isn't there just one feature that you think is above all of the others? (Trying to sell tab completion) ... Would you stop using LInux if you lost one feature of GNU/Linux system? In thinking about all of the features that I use ... tab completion is the one I couldn't imagine living without. Try traveling through your directory structure without tab completion. Yuck. Yeah, Yeah. Some of you GUI users don't understand :-)
