It's been a few days since writing in this section.

Let's start with the cool stuff and work our way through even more cool stuff.

Mirrors: Because of the ads, I'm now going to be able to afford the dedicated server. I was just a few dollars short per month and the ads will make up the difference. The dedicated server was ordered yesterday and is now online. I'm still learning how to set up the hosting features through the control panel but I have the anonymous ftp server set. This server is not in the United States. It's hosted by a Canadian company.

Yoper (www.yoper.com) helped me set up the rsync with yoper.com and Tux Reports is now an official mirror. I only have the cron job to complete and then all is well. Jason from Lycoris is also sending information and setting things up so that we can mirror the Lycoris DLX builds.

Yoper: Wow. This is wild. I would never imagined this seven years ago. I downloaded both the cd live version and the Ydesktop 3.2.1 release candidate. i810 agpgart is not set up and dhcp is a bug but their forums have the work arounds. They are answering VERY quickly ! Make sure you visit their website http://www.yoper.com for more information.

It's great to play with KDE 3.1 rc5. In fact, I'm glad there was the delay to fix the potential security holes and glad that the KDE development team was wise enough to release another release candidate. Maybe there will be some rpms of the rc5 available so that more people can test it :-)

If not -- then download Yoper. ftp://ca1.yoper.com is our server.

KBear: I'm a gFTP fanatic. However, build 2.0.13 seems to leave me hanging many times. The application will stop In the middle of the transfer and I'll either lose connection to the local directory or the remote directory. Therefore, I started poking around to seeing what else is out there. KBear has gone through lots of changes since the last time I looked at it. It's very pretty. I took some screenshots and they are in the gallery. However, it locked up when I opened the dialog to add a new server and then pressed cancel. I'll do more later and see if this is a bug -- and then report it -- or see if it is my fat fingers and little brain.

Lycoris Build 66: Lycoris Desktop/ LX is still the crown jewel of the desktop OS GNU/Linux distributions. The latest build 66 was installed and fortunately the install was smarter than I was last night. I thought it had hung after clicking finish. Instead, it just took some time to come up to the beautiful login prompt. Bird is going to go walk through the install and write down the details .... but if you want to show your friends a nice GNU/Linux OS then download Lycoris DLX.

Warning: Build 66 is beta product. Do not use this as your desktop. Use it to preview the technology being added to the OS. There is potential data loss in all beta releases.

Phoenix 0.5: Those of you constantly looking for the perfect browser -- and Mozilla 1.2.1 is not the answer -- then take a look at Phoenix. Phoenix is based on the Mozilla code. However, it runs faster and isn't as bulky. It's amazing how browsers based on Mozilla can be so different. Now, Galeon is able to disconnect and connect tabs. I like that feature. Mozilla is nice because on the far left side is a small icon which can be clicked to open up new tabs. I wish Phoenix had that icon ! I'm sure there is more to be said about Phoenix and I'm just being lazy but take a look at it yourself. In fact, I like it so much that the new 0.5 is on our dedicated ftp server.

Next review: We arn't much of a poll taking site; however, a friend convinced me to put up a poll and simply ask which distribution should we review next. Well, we had some cheaters on our poll and I've let it go. Instead, I watched the reference logs and just subtracted some things out. Bird and EMH will also take a look at the different distributions. Personally, they are all getting to be so good that it is hard to decide !

The Who is Linking to Us Department: I'll end this little blurb by mentioning KHD's website again. This blog sends us more visitors now than any other website linking to us. If you haven't been to his blog then you should know that even Doc from LJ goes there :-)

However, this lug ... http://puertolacruz.linux.org.ve/ ... has the coolest penguin image on it. Now that is how I picture a 7-year old penguinist ...

Journals: One more thing  If you want to add your thoughts as a journal to this website then let me know . We can set up a journal for you. After all, if you play with GNU/Linux toys during the day and night and want to share your experiences then there is room for you too !

Man, sometimes I feel so stupid.

I was thinking about the icon in the toolbar for Phoenix, lamenting the fact that I have to pull down the menu, File -> New Tab, and it was getting really old fast. It dawned on me finally that I can probably customize that toolbar. Duh.

Simply Go to View -> Toolbars -> Customize and then drag the icon of your choice on to the toolbar. I drug the icon for opening a new tab and now I'm happy as a clam. Oh so easy ! Sort of. I still want to be able to open a website in a new window and then attach it later as a tab ...

The install instructions for Phoenix 0.5 clearly state to create a new profile for this version. Did I pay attention to those instructions? No

After installing and making a complete fool of myself -- I ended up having to delete the ./phoenix/default directory. I relaunched Phoenix and create a new profile. I then downloaded my favorite theme (MV) and installed the extensions of my choice. I also had to customize the toolbar so that the tab icon was on it again.

How silly !

I stayed up until 4:30am because it was my first time playing with Phoenix and this thing is too much fun to use. I'm thankful that I had laundry to do today because I can do that while having fun with this!

So, how are you and the girls doing today? I really appreciate what you three do here!

Thanks for the distinction, LPH :-)
