Yes, I placed adcodes on the index.php page. They shouldn't appear on the discussion forums, reviews, or articles.

I know. I know. I know. But something has to help offset the costs of this website. If you want the girls to publish more reviews then I'll have to spend more money. The money has to come from somewhere - and rather than asking for donations - we'll just do this the old fashion way - BLINDING you with ads.

OK, so the request was made for no popup ads to be put on the site. If you see those types of ads then you know I'm really REALLY pushed for money.

If all goes well then we'll move the site to a dedicated server. This might help speed up the site during the day when it seems to get hit the hardest.

Sorry for the ads :-(

I'm thinking that they'll be removed after $100 for the month is earned ... and put back on at the beginning of each month. Greed is certainly not a motive here, just hope that some of the costs will be offset. In case you are wondering, the costs are rather light right now. $109 is spent on the hosting and domain name parking. A budget of $300 per month is set on hardware. A budget of $100 is set per month on distributions. The least expensive dedicated server is around $200 per month -- unmetered. If you know of a good choice -- with great value -- then please let me know.

BTW: Did you donate to DistroWatch? Come on now ! Ladislav does a lot of work -- so help him out !

How many cents per click, LPH?

Man, I haven't actually clicked on ads for so long that I'd almost forgotten that you could ;-)

They are a mixture of CPC and CPM. So, I checked and since putting up the ads, there have been two click throughs and a few hundred impressions. Providing a grand total of $0.15 ! Yeah :-)

At this rate it would take 3 months to earn $100.

What's the difference between the two (CPC and CPM, I mean)?

CPC is cost per click.

CPM is the cost per thousand for a particular site and is based on impressions rather than clicks on the banner.

In other words, both of these are set up on the site so that even if someone doesn't click on the banner there is still money earned for it being shown.

I do appreciate the fact that you've purposely avoided pop ups. I block them through pretty much every browser I use (on whatever platform) so they aren't the nuisance to me that they are to other people. I did notice while using someone's machine with only IE installed that pop ups are obnoxious on many of the sites I frequent. Is there a larger payment for display for those? I'm thinking there must be just to offset the annoyance factor for users.

The rub is that I block ads from most of the servers that your ads come from. So, I'm going to unblock ads (since it's so simple and quick) from those servers while I'm on your site. I'd rather hit a PayPal button and just give you a couple of bucks but I totally understand where you're coming from. Thanks for giving us the straight skinny.
