VNC is working between our Libranet machine and other machines on our local network: e.g. Xandros, LindowsOS 3.0, Mandrake-Linux 8.2 and MS Windows ME machines.

VNCserver was launched on the Libranet 2.7 box in a Konsole by typing vncserver

On the Xandros machine, we launched Mozilla 1.0.1 and typed the IP address:5801 for the Libranet box. A password request was then provided. After entering the password, I was presented with IceWM from the Libranet box !.

Birdie then launched an IE browser and also entered the IP adresss:5801and both of us could control the screen at the same time. How cool.

We tried to launch Galeon but the browser opened up on the Libranet machine. We then opened Mozilla, and logged into Tuxreports. We are now writing this on our Xandros computer, but in our Libranet desktop through VNC

EMH has posted two screenshots in our gallery.

I typed the first post using the browser Mozilla on my Xandros machine, attached to the Libranet box. I then tried to open the browser Konqueror and write about the experience, but typing was very slow and took ages.

It's easier just to stay on my Xandros machine, and go through Mozilla to work on Tuxreports.

Go to the gallery and check out the screenshots I took. Pay attention to the colors. Notice the purple is changed to brown.

Today when I was under MS Windows ME I launched Internet Explorer and typed the IP address :5801. This sent me to the Libranet box on our local network. EMH and I were using seperate computers but we both had access to LPH's desktop. Since that got really confusing I changed the end from :5801 to :5802. I then had independent connection to LPH's desktop.

Xosview showed that the cpu was pegged to 100% with EMH attached to my Libranet box. However, I didn't feel any problems while EMH and birdie were attached.

The CPU is a 1.1 GHz Celeron.

IMPORTANT PART OF THE MESSAGE REMAINS

In Mandrake 9 I just go to Remote Access- Virtual Network Connection, feed it an IP and it's up. If I want to serve I do the same thing and pick the right option.

Am I missing something here?

OK. Apparently you need to read the About Tux Reports. I've edited your message to remove the unnecessary comment and then let the main idea stand.

EMH and SMH are 11 and 12 years old. The fact that they are fascinated by GNU/Linux should be supported on all sides of the street.

Why delete the original parts of my message? There was nothing foul, obscene, over-critical, or anything else in it. Why choose censorship?

At any rate, thanks for bringing the age of these people to light, which IMHO is totally irrelevant. I've seen some 12 year old kids use linux longer than I have, and know much, much more about it than I do after 4 years. I think it's cool that kids are interested in the true future of computing. Rock on.

A yawn in someone's face is an act of aggression. If you didn't mean it that way then hopefully you'll see the other side of it now. In reading your message, I believed that you had the best of intentions. Therefore, I kept the main part of your message because you contributed the way for it to be done under Mandrake 9. And that is the cool part. Otherwise, I would have deleted all of it.

Hope that explains things. And yes - rock on.

I should clarify my statement above. Besides my daughters, there are many people from other countries who read this website. Everyone's views are important and no one has an opinion that allows them to sound off against someone else or someone else's contributions. (don't worry - I'm not saying you did - just in case others are reading this).

Here is a short list of some of the countries our visitors came from in the last hour ... Someone in Croatia has probably been raised with different role models and speech patterns than someone in Hong Kong.

I try to keep all of these in mind when making a decision whether to edit. Besides, everyone can just be careful -- and then there isn't a problem !

LPH, your About TuxReports article clearly outlines the limits imposed here. I suggest you make it more prominent. That way you won't need to continue justifying your (relatively ;-)) reasonable editing of posts.

OK. I was toying with the sticky posts and was thinking that each forum could contain a sticky note that remains at the top. This note would have the rules.

Well, I've been trying to be careful. Many of us do not like our messages edited. I just want everyone to learn from each other - support each other - and above all - have a good time !

If you explicity say somewhere that you will edit posts that violate the rules, then the implication will be that people who post understand this.

Just changed the Xandros Topic image.. Oh wait. That doesn't belong in this reply :-)

OK. I'll figure something out so that it is explicit.

How about a simple "edited due to content" posted as a header in each post you edit with a link to your ruleset that justifies the edit. Makes sense to me.

Fair enough. Now I just need an explicit ruleset ! Sometimes I get too wordy :-)
